Foreword: Atopic Dermatitis

The difference between atopic dermatitis and other atopic illnesses is that the pathologic process in the former can be followed visually from the start to the end. Unlike other organs affected by atopic conditions, skin can be inspected on an ongoing basis, biopsied at various stages, and intervened pharmacologically more easily. This makes atopic dermatitis an excellent model disease to study. Because of this easy accessibility, atopic dermatitis has provided exciting new knowledge to the field of allergy over the years. It is a disease where Th1, Th2, and Th17 cells work in an orderly sequence to produce a complete phenotype.
